Today's Fact

A coup, a general who bathed in raw vibranium, and a brother who became a walking chain reaction aimed at the Great Mound.

T'CHALLA'S OWN HALF-BROTHER TURNED HIMSELF INTO A VIBRANIUM MONSTER — AND NEARLY BLEW UP THE PLANET WITH HIS OWN BODY!
The Featured Fact

While T'Challa was abroad, his half-brother Jakarra — a Wakandan general, son of T'Chaka by another tribe — seized his moment: he declared himself ruler in Black Panther Vol. 1 #6 (1977), then did the one thing Wakandan law and common sense both forbid. Convinced his short stature and mixed birth had cheated him of the throne, he exposed himself directly to raw vibranium to buy the power he thought he was owed.

The vibranium collected payment instead. Jakarra's hair fell out, his skin turned pink and swollen, and he rebuilt himself into a hulking monster — bulletproof, breathing flame, and worst of all a living generator of sonic vibration. His own soldiers abandoned him on sight, and N'Gassi, the regent T'Challa had left in charge, understood the arithmetic instantly: a vibration generator walking into the Great Vibranium Mound could set off a chain reaction that destroyed the mound, Wakanda and, by the story's own stakes, the entire planet.

It took the whole royal bench to hold the line — N'Gassi drafted T'Challa's cousins into the Black Musketeers — and it still took the Panther himself, racing home, to finish it in issue #10 (1978): Jakarra was destroyed with a special injector devised by Dr. Joshua Itobo, a king killing his own mutated brother to keep the ground under both of them from detonating.

Why It's Obscure

Killmonger gets the family-rival headlines; the half-brother who nearly ended the world with his own heartbeat is a Kirby-era footnote.

BLACK PANTHER #6 (1977)
The coup. Jack Kirby introduced Jakarra mid-takeover: a general of Wakanda, half-brother to the king, explaining to N'Gassi exactly how a lifetime of being overlooked had curdled into treason.
BLACK PANTHER #7 (1978)
The transformation. Jakarra confessed the raw vibranium exposure and mutated on the page — pink, massive and inhuman — while his own troops switched allegiance back to N'Gassi mid-scene.
THE BLACK MUSKETEERS
Cousins on duty. Khanata, Ishanta, Zuni and Joshua Itobo — a race driver, a businessman, an elder and a boy genius — wore Panther-style gear to fight a monster none of them was trained for.
BLACK PANTHER #10 (1978)
The injector. Itobo's device let T'Challa end the threat at the mound itself; the exposure fallout even left the Panther with temporary extrasensory perception in the issues that followed.
