Today's Fact
Felicia Hardy lost her freedom, her fortune and her reputation in one arrest, then decided the underworld owed her a throne.
During the Superior Spider-Man period, Otto Octavius was wearing Peter Parker's body and his crueller version of hero work. He beat Black Cat during a robbery, exposed her identity and left her for the police, destroying the comfortable life Felicia Hardy had built on the right side of the law's blind spots.
She escaped custody convinced that the real Spider-Man had betrayed her, unaware of the body swap behind the mask. Prison cost her money, standing and the respect of criminals who had once feared her luck, and she emerged with a colder ambition than jewel theft, as her campaign opened in The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 #1 (2014).
Felicia stopped working other people's scores and started collecting the people who ran them. She muscled in on operations belonging to the Eel and other established bosses, gathered lieutenants like Electro around her banner and set out to become the Queenpin of New York — a crime lord whose revenge plan and business plan were exactly the same document.
Why It's Obscure
Plenty of thieves retire on one last job. Felicia responded to ruin by acquiring the entire profession.
