BISHOP CAME BACK FROM THE FUTURE POSSESSED — BY THE DEMON BEAR!

The Featured Fact

Stranded in 6700 AD, Bishop did not die in the wasteland. A group of human survivors called the Order nursed him back to health, rebuilt what the hunt for Hope Summers had cost him, and trained him to hunt Revenants — entities that possess people and twist them into monsters. It was honest work, and for a while it looked like an ending.

Then the Revenants’ queen, the Ghost Owl, set a trap. Bishop was attacked and possessed by the Demon Bear — the same primal entity that once terrorised Danielle Moonstar and the New Mutants — and the Bear used his body as a vehicle, riding him back through time to the present day. Bishop surfaced in 2013 Los Angeles overjoyed to be home, while something ancient looked out through his eyes.

His old teammates met the thing wearing him in Uncanny X-Force Vol. 2 #1 (2013). Psylocke eventually dragged the Bear out of his mind, and Storm seized the chance to disrupt the memories of his vendetta against Hope stored alongside it. Bishop woke from a coma with his worst years scrambled — an exorcism and an intervention performed in a single psychic surgery.

Why It's Obscure

The X-Men’s most relentless hunter spent years as somebody else’s mount: the Demon Bear did to Bishop exactly what he had spent his stranded years killing Revenants to prevent.

The Order

The rescue — far-future survivors healed the castaway hunter, restored his ruined body, and gave him a purpose that was not a little girl’s death.

Amber

The mercy — Bishop spared a half-possessed girl named Amber when he could not bring himself to kill her, and she became his companion on the Revenant hunts.

Ghost Owl

The trap — the Revenant queen lured Bishop in and planted the Demon Bear in him, using a time traveller’s body as her ticket to the past.

The exorcism

Psylocke and Storm — Psylocke pulled the Bear free while Storm edited the Hope vendetta out of easy reach; Bishop paid for the rescue with a coma.
