TO KILL ONE BABY, BISHOP BURNED ENTIRE FUTURES — THEN GOT STRANDED IN THE WRECKAGE!
The Featured Fact

Yesterday’s entry covered the shot that felled Professor Xavier. What followed was worse, and it ran for years of publication time. Armed with a nuclear-powered cybernetic arm stolen from Forge — complete with a built-in time device — Bishop chased Cable and the infant Hope Summers across the timestream in Cable Vol. 2 (2008), determined to finish the killing at any cost.

The cost accounting is the horrifying part. Unable to pin down a target who could appear anywhere on Earth in any era, Bishop narrowed the map the brutal way: traps seeded through history, whole regions rendered uninhabitable, battlefields prepared centuries in advance. Marvel’s own history of the feud puts the toll in the millions, with some accounts of his scorched timelines reaching into the billions — and Bishop comforted himself that none of those people truly counted, because a successful mission would erase their timelines anyway.

He even enlisted Stryfe during Messiah War, serving as the villain’s right hand while waiting for Cable and a now-older Hope to surface, and lost an eye in the fighting. The chase ended in Cable Vol. 2 #24 (2010): Cable destroyed Bishop’s means of time travel and abandoned him in the year 6700 AD — alone on the husk of a world his own campaign had helped to ruin.

Why It's Obscure

One man's certainty, stretched across millennia, produced a body count no single battle could match — and a punishment fitted precisely to the crime.

The arm
Forge’s hardware — the stolen cybernetic replacement Bishop took after losing his own arm carried the timeslide technology that turned a manhunt into a centuries-long siege.
The logic
“They don’t count” — Bishop reasoned that people in doomed timelines were not real victims, since killing Hope would unwrite their futures entirely.
Messiah War
Strange allies — Bishop served Stryfe and fought beside Celestial technology, bargaining with a tyrant for one more angle on a teenage girl.
6700 AD
The sentence — stranded without a time device, Bishop wandered the wasteland he had made until others found him — the starting point of his long road back.
