HE SHOT PROFESSOR X IN THE HEAD — TRYING TO KILL A NEWBORN BABY!
The Featured Fact

The man who came back in time to save the X-Men ended Messiah Complex as their would-be assassin. When the first mutant baby since M-Day was born, Cable saw a messiah. Bishop saw the child whose actions, in his future, triggered the catastrophe that put mutants in concentration camps — and he resolved to kill the infant Hope Summers before she could grow into it.

Bishop betrayed the X-Men, hunted Cable and the baby across the crossover, and lost his right arm to Predator X on Muir Island for his trouble. As Cable escaped into the timestream with Hope in X-Men Vol. 2 #207 (2008), Bishop fired one last wild barrage at them — and the shots missed the baby and hit Professor Charles Xavier in the head, apparently killing the founder of the X-Men.

Xavier survived — barely, his mind shattered and rebuilt across X-Men: Legacy — but Bishop didn’t stop. He tore a cybernetic arm and time-travel gear out of Forge’s lab and chased Cable and Hope through centuries of future timelines in Cable Vol. 2, willing to wreck whole eras to reach one girl. The X-Men’s time-cop had become the thing he was sent to prevent: a traitor whose shot nearly ended the dream at its source.

Why It's Obscure

Bishop debuted hunting a traitor who would destroy the X-Men from within. In Messiah Complex, the traitor’s defining act — shooting Xavier — turned out to be his own.

M-Day
After House of M depowered mutantkind, Hope Summers was the first mutant birth — X-Men, Marauders and Purifiers all raced to claim her in Messiah Complex (2007–08).
Two futures
Cable believed Hope would save mutantkind and humanity. Bishop believed she would cause millions of deaths and the timeline of camps he grew up in. Same baby, opposite prophecies.
The shot
On Muir Island, Predator X tore off Bishop’s arm; as Cable time-jumped away with Hope, Bishop’s last barrage hit Xavier in the head instead (X-Men Vol. 2 #207).
The hunt
Bishop stole a prototype cybernetic arm with a built-in time machine from Forge and pursued Cable and Hope through the future for years of Cable Vol. 2 — even allying with Stryfe.
