HE KILLED HIS SISTER — THEN CARRIED HER ON HIS WRIST!
The Featured Fact

Lucas Bishop’s younger sister Shard was the better officer: the youngest commanding officer in the history of the Xavier Security Enforcers, a mutant who turned light into concussive blasts. Then her boyfriend, the time-traveling criminal Trevor Fitzroy, lured her into an ambush by the Emplates — psychic vampires who feed on mutant marrow. Turned into one of them, Shard became a monster who had to feed on mutants to live — and Bishop was forced to kill his own sister rather than let her live that way.

But Shard didn’t entirely die. Her essence was transferred into a holographic matrix projector — a device Bishop wore on his wrist. When he chased Fitzroy through a time portal into the present day (stranding himself in the era of the X-Men he’d grown up worshipping), the projector came with him. Bishop later had her matrix programmed into the mansion’s Cerebro computer, so Shard could appear wherever a projector existed.

The hologram insisted she was real — and proved it the hard way. Captured by Operation: Zero Tolerance for the future data in her matrix, Shard destroyed her own projector to keep it from Bastion — and instead of dispersing, she re-formed as a self-sustaining photonic lifeform: a living hologram who needed no machine at all. She refused her big brother’s demand that she join the X-Men and instead served with X-Factor — her own hero, on her own team, after death.

Why It's Obscure

Everyone remembers Bishop arriving from the future alone. He wasn’t: his dead sister rode through time on his wrist, argued with him, outlived her own projector, and joined a super-team as a ghost made of light.

1994
Uncanny X-Men #314 (Lobdell & Romita Jr.) — Shard’s first full appearance; an illusion cameo in Uncanny X-Men Annual #17 (1993) had teased her a year earlier.
The X.S.E.
Shard was the youngest field commander the Enforcers ever promoted — outranking, in precocity, even Bishop. Fitzroy’s betrayal and the Emplate ambush ended her life; Bishop delivered the mercy kill.
The wrist
Her essence survived in a holographic matrix projector worn on Bishop’s wrist — carried through Fitzroy’s portal to the present, then uploaded into Cerebro at the Xavier mansion.
Photonic
After destroying her projector to thwart Bastion, Shard re-formed untethered — a photonic lifeform. She joined X-Factor and declined the X-Men: even dead, she refused to live in her brother’s shadow.
