Today's Fact

Her pupil had swallowed a god to keep the world safe. Her teacher's response was not a lecture. It was a theft.

AGATHA STOLE AN ELDER GOD'S HEART FROM HER OWN STUDENT — TO WRITE A BRAND-NEW DARKHOLD!
The Featured Fact

By 2023, Wanda Maximoff had done something no witch had ever survived attempting: she had absorbed the Darkhold — and the elder god Chthon who wrote it — into herself, becoming his living prison. It was the bravest magical act of her life, performed under the teaching of Agatha Harkness. Agatha's professional opinion was that it could not be allowed to stand.

Agatha arrived at that opinion with a brand-new face. In Midnight Suns #5 (2023) her youth had been restored, and in Scarlet Witch Annual Vol. 2 #1 (2023) — the prelude to Contest of Chaos — the rejuvenated Agatha reunited with her former student, all warmth and concern, while quietly sizing up the god sleeping inside her.

Then she reached in and took Chthon's heart out of Wanda. Agatha intended the stolen organ as the conduit for forging a new Darkhold, written on her own terms rather than Chthon's — and to charge it, she spent the 2023 Contest of Chaos annuals pitting hero against hero across the Marvel Universe, harvesting the chaos magic their corrupted battles threw off.

Why It's Obscure

A mentorship so advanced it skipped the curriculum and went straight to organ theft.

The living prison
Wanda's impossible burden — The Scarlet Witch carries both the Darkhold and its author inside her own body, a containment spell made of one woman's will.
2023
Young again — Midnight Suns #5 restores Agatha's youth, and she returns to Wanda's life in Scarlet Witch Annual Vol. 2 #1 looking decades younger than her student remembers.
The theft
A heart, removed — Under cover of a reunion, Agatha extracts Chthon's heart from Wanda to serve as the engine of a replacement Darkhold.
Contest of Chaos
Homework for heroes — Across the 2023 annuals, Agatha corrupts champions into fighting each other so their battles generate the chaos her new book needs.
