Today's Fact
The black cat dozing on the new governess's arm in 1970 was the most dangerous member of her household.
Ebony arrived with Agatha Harkness in Fantastic Four Vol. 1 #94 (1970), perched on the arm of Franklin Richards' new governess and introduced in a single panel: “I am Agatha Harkness… and this is Ebony!” Marvel's own character history describes the cat as a powerful extra-dimensional creature held in psychic rapport with Agatha, who sees and hears through her familiar and occasionally casts spells through her.
The household found out what that meant when the Frightful Four came calling at Whisper Hill. Ebony's hackles rose first — her senses flagged the Wizard's approach before any alarm could — and when the villains pressed the attack, the housecat transformed into a massive panther. She drove the Wizard fleeing out of a window and into a tree, and the Trapster fainted outright at the sight of her demonic shape.
Later accounts only widen the résumé. Marvel notes Ebony can regenerate from virtually complete destruction and shift between panther and giant humanoid feline shapes, and its menagerie of Marvel animals records that she once injured Mephisto himself while in her demonic form. The creature Agatha carries like a pet has drawn blood from the Devil of the Marvel Universe.
Why It's Obscure
Whisper Hill's security system purred, shed on the furniture, and once mauled a lord of Hell.

Ebony appears in her ordinary cat shape in both period images below — her panther shape struck too fast for these panels, so nothing here is captioned as showing it.
