AGATHA ATE HER OWN CAT TO SEE THE FUTURE — AND WHAT SHE SAW WAS VISION STANDING OVER DEAD AVENGERS!
The Featured Fact

Ebony was never an ordinary pet. For decades the black cat at Agatha Harkness’s side served as her familiar — a magical creature that could swell into a snarling panther in a fight and through which the witch could perceive the mystical world, a partnership still going strong when readers met them in Fantastic Four #94 (1970).

That bond ended in a ritual, not a battle. Wanting knowledge of what was coming, Agatha fed Ebony a single petal of the Everbloom, a prophetic flower growing on Wundagore Mountain, and then consumed the cat herself — a working described openly in Vision Vol. 2 #3 (2016), where her voice recounts the price she paid for foresight.

The vision purchased at that price was a nightmare with a familiar face. Agatha foresaw the synthezoid Vision standing triumphant above the corpses of his fellow Avengers, soaked in their blood — and that dread made her the hidden narrator of Vision’s suburban experiment, watching his manufactured family from beyond the grave and passing her warning to Earth’s heroes while the prophecy ticked closer.

Why It's Obscure

A familiar is supposed to guard a witch’s life, so naturally Agatha eventually spent hers like currency.

The familiar
More than a cat — Ebony fought beside Agatha as a panther, sensed mystical presences she could not, and survived scrapes that would have ended any household pet’s career several times over.
The Everbloom
A flower with a body count — one petal of Wundagore’s Everbloom grants a glimpse ahead, which is precisely the sort of bargain-basement prophecy that always invoices somebody Agatha loves.
The meal
No take-backs — the ritual was not symbolic and it was not reversible: the familiar went into the working body and all, and the cat who had padded through decades of Marvel history simply stops appearing afterward.
The prophecy
Doom, narrated calmly — armed with her vision of Vision triumphant over dead Avengers, Agatha spent her afterlife doing the one thing left to her: telling the story early enough that somebody might still stop it.
