Today's Fact
Checked against independent sources — the issues are cited below.
In Marvel Premiere #1 (1972), the High Evolutionary intercepts the drifting cocoon of the being once called Him, renames him Warlock, and presses the green Soul Gem into his brow before sending him down to Counter-Earth, a duplicate world hidden on the far side of the Sun. Four teenagers there supply the missing half of his name when they start calling him Adam.
Counter-Earth had been poisoned by the Man-Beast, a creature the High Evolutionary himself had uplifted and then lost control of, and ordinary sermons were doing nothing to loosen that grip. Warlock chose theatre instead of another energy blast: he allowed himself to be put to death in public, staking his reputation on a return his followers could witness for themselves.
The gamble paid off in the most literal packaging Marvel owned. Warlock’s body regenerated inside a fresh cocoon, and he emerged three days after his execution with his credibility transformed — the population that had ignored a wandering preacher now had a resurrection to reckon with, and the Man-Beast’s hold on the planet never recovered from it.
Why It's Obscure
He could not out-preach a cult, so he out-died it — and let his own biology deliver the rebuttal.
